background and justification § 18 priority ILO Conventions for action under the PDWCA 2008 -2010. Among these are Con. 187 and related conventions: C 184 Safety And Health In Agriculture, C 155 Occupational Safety And Health, C 129 Labor Inspection In Agriculture, C 162 Safety In The Use Of Asbestos, And C 81 Labor Inspection § The PDWCA exhorts tripartite partners, to take necessary steps to achieve various levels or progress towards ratification of these identified priority conventions.
background and justification § PDWCA assessment: “no substantial accomplishments as far as the priority conventions FOR RATIFICATION are concerned. ” § Accidents at work are continuously on the rise, reaching 270 million each year. There were altogether 2. 38 million work-related deaths annually (ILO, 2008) § 63 workers were killed and 51 workers were injured in 28 fatal workplace incidents in the Philippines in January – August 2011 (TUCP compilation of newspaper reports show. )
background and justification § Actions on strengthening Fo. A, CB, and other workers’ rights are in place and on-going! § Senseless workplace deaths, accidents, and illnesses are a common concern for both workers and employers. § High impact on productivity and security of affected workers’ families. § There is need for accelerated action and a dedicated organization/champion to take lead for each Convention or sets of Conventions if national Decent Work objectives are to be achieved.

activities § MONTHLY ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING MEETINGS § A WEB-BASED CAMPAIGN linked with the TUCP website (www. tucp. org. ph) will be established to support to whole advocacy. It will also serve as a source of information related to priority conventions for ratification. A pro-forma electronic mail, addressed directly to the senate president, and Senate Committee of Foreign Affairs, and copied to all other senators will be made available for unique website visitors to endorse. We will aim to gather 3, 000 emails directly to senators, inboxes. (This is modelled from the TUCP campaign for the passage of senate bill on banning the use of asbestos. ) § Project outcome dissemination forum (TRIPARTITE)
