(Boden 2011) WHY DO WE NEED CREATIVITY? Fonts like Wingdings can be used to add custom icons and images to your text. Combining custom shapes can give you a variety of useful images to convey your data. CONCEPTS OF CREATIVITY The Ordinary and the Extraordinary Creativity is not a denial of the ordinary in pursuit of the extraordinary. It is not new forms of knowledge but new ways of thinking (Till p. 10) Multiplicity Creativity is a variety of thought processes, a bundle of processes making connections that haven’t been made before. It is not a single process (Lehrer, Till p. 9, Marquis and Vajoczki p. 9) Iteration Creativity is perspiration, revision and iteration each iteration yielding new information, ideas and concepts which can be fed back into the creative effort whilst also highlighting redundancies. (Derrida, Lehrer)) Ambiguity To allow learners to flourish we can no longer educate for fixity but for moving targets. Creativity entails uncertainty and insecurity (Lucas, Till p. 8: Marquis and Vajoczki p. 1, Rancière) Curiosity Creativity is ‘a readiness to find what surrounds us strange and odd; a certain determination to throw off familiar ways of thought and to look at the same things in a different way; (Foucault It requires reflective intelligence as an essential preparation for the contingency of the world (Till p. 14) Context Creativity is shaped by the socio-cultural context in which it appears (Marquis and Vajoczki p. 1, 6 , 10) Doubt is an essential condition of life. (Merleau-Ponty p. 60) It develops what Dewey calls reflective intelligence necessary to challenge traditional hierarchies to create new knowledge (Till p. 14) Judgement Developing a critical awareness of how one might enable transformation (of anything) for the better is essential for creativity We need to educate to develop judgement: to develop ways of making judgement Till p. 9 p. 17) Courage Creativity requires resilience and courage It is smart ‘knowing’ risk taking and demands perseverance and passion for long-term goals (Fleetham, Carlile and Jordan, Marquis and Vajoczki Duckworth, Lehrer) The Actual and Possible Creativity is an ability to see familiar things in new and different ways (Fleetham) Creativity encompasses new ideas with a second life, new connections between old and new that finds a niche in the world (Lehrer) FACILITATORS PROMOTING CREATIVITY IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT DO….
