Projected Lava Flow on Venus Michael Boyce
Content Overview u Why this topic? u How the work was approached? u Problems, there were many!! u Future work u Questions u
Overview u u Venus, Earth’s Sister Planet Volcanism, Lava Production –type of lava (we are not in Kansas anymore)
Why? u u u Why not? Has not been done before, (that I know of) Curiosity, could it be done?
The Process
Data Analysis u u Metadata Selection of Site Getting a Clearer picture Digitizing
Elevation - Color Slope
Elevation (color) + Slope (grey scale, at 50% transparency)
Down to Business Creating a layer for the flow channels u Defining a Co-ordinate system for the layer u Overlaying the new “drainage” layer and digitizing u
Creating the layer
Name of the layer Type of layer Coordinate System Will be used later Might be used, if time permits
Layer Ready!
Digitizing u u u Using the editor toolbar Start editing This enables the flow paths to be digitized directly onto the map
u When the editing is enabled the tool bar becomes active
Problems Cell size => 4640. 998047 m x 4640. 998047 m u This means that any apparent valleys are very big u The eastings and westings are reversed u
Future Work More digitizing u Adding flow direction u Converting the “drainage” into 3 d u
