Project Scope Time Cost Scope Statement WBS Diagram
Project Scope / Time / Cost Scope Statement WBS Diagram Task List & Responsibility Matrix Time (Schedule) Task List with Durations & Sequencing Cost (Budget) Cost of each Task Cost of Summary Tasks Cost of Overall Project
Scope Statement • The project scope statement outlines (in text/paragraph format) what work will be done, the project's deliverables and the associated constraints and assumptions. It includes: – Project description – User acceptance criteria – Detailed information on all project deliverables • It often takes time for the scope of project be become clear and specific
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) • The work breakdown structure (WBS) diagram is a hierarchical tree of work items needed to be accomplished • Using the scope statement, all activities are identified • Creating WBS is especially useful for larger, more complex projects • Criteria for deciding how much detail or how many levels to put in the WBS: – Level at which a single individual can be assigned responsibility for accomplishing the activity. – Level at which you want to control the budget and monitor and collect cost data during the project. • This can be created using various drawing tools including WBSTool. com
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Task List • Using the WBS, the task list can be developed • It lists all activities / tasks required to complete project – Primary task is lowest level of detail – Summary task is the accumulation of all of its primary tasks • The overall project is the accumulation of all of its summary and primary tasks • Create using MS Project (Task Sheet View)
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Task List
Responsibility Matrix • Displays in tabular format the individuals responsible for each task and summary tasks – “X” can be used to indicate who is responsible • Can indicate primary and secondary responsibility using: – “P” indicates who has primary responsibility – “S” indicates who has secondary responsibility • Create using MS Excel or Word

Time (Schedule) • The schedule is a timeline for the overall project – it shows the duration and sequencing of all project activities. • The duration and sequencing for each primary task is added to the task list. • Summary tasks are automatically determined from the accumulation of all of its primary tasks • Create using MS Project (Task Sheet View)
Schedule
Cost Table • Cost table displays in tabular format the cost of all primary tasks and summary tasks • Cost of summary task = cost of all of its primary tasks • Cost are calculated as: total cost = number of units required x cost per unit • Examples: – 80 hours x $50 per hour = $4, 000 total cost – 3 servers x $3, 500 per server = $10, 500 total cost • Project Cost should also include contingency/reserve funds • Create using MS Excel
