DEFINITION of TERMS

Definition of terms used in this project. Poor: lacking enough money to live comfortably in a society Elementary age: 6 -11 years of age High school age: 12 -15 years of age {not the K 12 system Poverty: the state of a person who lacks a socially acceptable amount of money

Definition of Terms {cont. } Street children: Children who are living on the streets and deprived of their basic rights. School age: children from ages 6 -15 Beggars: a person who lives on materials they ask/ beg for Marginalized: people pushed to the edge of society and lose their power in society.

PROJECT TITLE

Art for a cause This is a project about raising the awareness of the Keys community about the poverty situation in Metro Manila and how to help.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Project Objective My project objective is to raise awareness about street beggars and why not to give them money.

PROJECT BRIEF

Project Brief THE PROBLEM: The poverty situation in Metro Manila is very grave, according to various websites such as cpbrisbane. org and www. cbn. com. Sources show that out of the beggars on the street 1. 2 million are children in the Philippines. There about 70, 000 street children in Metro Manila alone. There are children begging on the streets. They are working instead of going to school.

Project Brief According to the website www. gmanetwork. com 17. 8 percent, almost one fifth of elementary age children are out of school. While 43. 7 percent of high school children are not in school. In different ways people feel sorry for them and you usually want to help them and give them money.

Project Brief {cont. } THE PROJECT: To have a multimedia art contest (poetry, music and visual arts. ) that raises awareness about street beggars and why not to give them money.
