Critical Path Method ¨ There are 2 main questions about any project – 完成整個專案所需的最少時間? 最少時間 – 為了讓整個專案在最少時間內完成, 那些 作項目必須準時完成(不能延誤)? – These activities constitute the Critical Path through the PERT diagram

PERT ¨ PERT, PERT the Project Evaluation and Review Technique, is a network aid for planning and scheduling the many interrelated tasks in a large and complex project ¨ Developed during the design and construction of the Polaris submarine in USA in 1950’s ¨ Nowadays PERT techniques are routinely used in large projects such as software development, construction building etc.

Network Diagram ¨ PERT uses a network representation to capture the precedence or parallel relationships among the tasks in the project ¨ Networks are composed of events & activities. ¨ An event is defined as the starting or ending point for a group of activities, and an activity is the work required to proceed from one event or point in time to another. ¨ The circles represent events, and arrows represent activities.
