What’s happening now? Between now and January 2012: -> The SPDO will become the (legal) SKA Project Office (SPO) • Interim Director-General (Michiel van Haarlem ex-ASTRON) • SPO has management & system authority for the whole project • SPO will oversee the global effort – largely via Work Package Consortia (i. e. Participating Organisations + Industry) • The baseline plan for the Pre-construction phase is the PEP (2012 – end 2015 -> ready to build) • Funding for the PEP is essentially ‘national’ – with some contracts possibly emanating from the SPO

WP 7. 1 – Engineering and Management Within the SPO both management and engineering resources are allocated to this task. The SPO team comprises a Technical Project Manager, System Engineer and Engineers. WP 7. 2 – Preliminary Design For all the subsystems: Complete SKA 1 preliminary design phase Conduct SKA 1 preliminary design review Completion and auditing of documentation Subsystems for review in this phase include: Dish cabling Digital data back haul LO and timing M+C network Fibre Network Infrastructure connection schematic delivered CSIRO Confidential

WP 7. 3 – Network Infrastructure This work will include leadership and coordination of the network infrastructure task, including review of plans and designs. The integration of site information and network infrastructure designs are included in this task as well as the preparation of the procurement datapacks. There will be some preparatory work on plans to manage the ‘as built’ network and test results. WP 7. 4 – Digital Data Backhaul This work will include the detailed definition and monitoring of interfaces, review of designs and the completion of procurement ready datapacks.
