Lab work • Still problems with systems II at the moment. • The board we bought to measure the capacitance does not seem to be working well. • Still trying but also looking at other options now. Fixed Gap Design • Design for fixed gap system has progressed a lot very nearly complete. • Estimated conductance of enclosed volume and the timescale for pumping down after a breakdown ~10^-1 seconds. • It may be beneficial to have grooves machined into the anode to decrease this time. • Begun looking into optimising the gap distance and area of the design with regards to the power supply system we will have to maximise the frequency we can operate at. • If the conductance is well known it may be possible to estimate the average amount of material emitted in a breakdown from the known pumping rate and the dependence of the breakdown rate on the repetition rate. HFSS + CST • Have downloaded both and started working through tutorials.
