Section B: Experiencing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities What is it like to live with a disability?
Meet Raynn • Rayn is 8 years old. • Diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay and other health conditions, Rayn faces challenges in controlling some of his actions and has difficulties communicating with others. What daily activities do you think he has difficulty doing?
Activity #1 Charade with me
How to play? ① Students breakout into groups of 5. ② Student A holds a picture card for only student B to see. Student B acts out the object on the picture card for the rest of the students to guess. ③ Student B is not allowed to talk to the rest of the team. The student can only nod/shake his/her to indicate whether the answer is correct or wrong. What were some of the difficulties you faced?
Know Rayn Better • Ever since joining AWWA School, Ryan has become more independent and empowered, as the curriculum in school caters to his individual needs. • Ryan is now more aware of his surroundings, and can better interact with his friends by using simple gestures. • Having a passion for sports, Rayn worked hard to participate in a relay match during AWWA School's Sports Day and clinched first place with his team. By donating to Community Chest, you can help enable Rayn to live an independent life.
Disability Etiquette • Ask the person if he/she needs help before you help • Speak directly to him/her • Be sensitive about physical contact • Do not make assumptions
