1. Last mile useful and actionable information to end users is it properly addressed by each GEO activity ? GEO PB task 2. No silos: need for improved exchange of information and cooperation between various ALL GEO activities incl. GEOSS Regional ones when dealing with similar topic. Efforts on coordination mechanism across domains is key. A mechanism should be developed/implemented. 3. Data management: – – – – Steady increase of amount of data discoverable thru the GEOSS Portal. Data policy, Data sharing (open and free data) is key. Data ontology is nice but next should be content ontology …. Data accessibility, timeliness & usability to be improved as well as…. Data quality, reliability, comparability, interoperability, integration, standards, … Consequences of Intellectual properties on information & publications derived from EO? Combine various sources into innovative products
4. In-situ data: no dedicated staff at GEOSEC. Terrestrial domain coordination remains a challenge; need to closely coordinate with in-situ providers. Barriers due to restricted data policy. Need for human resources. Crowdsourcing has potential? 5. Leverage new technologies (e. g. IA, ARD, data cubes, big data analytics, ML, . . ) to advance the use of EO: a chance for enhancing the exploitation of data. How can we inject innovative ideas in GEO WP or Future GEO ? 6. Urbanisation new top priority for GEO ? Is it time to promote it at same level as SDG? 7. Enhance the engage partners (incl. Commercial sector, Funding providers e. g. WB, International org. e. g. Belmont Forum, UN agencies, . . ) and User communities in both GEO WP activities and in Regional GEOSS. 8. Improve the communication to get more credit for GEO successes.
Possible elements for a Vision for 2020 -2023 GEO WP 1. Activities linked to Policies, addressing major societal challenges. 2. Focus on performing activities with confirmed resources (funding, human, . . ) to reach objectives. – Non performing ones kept as CA or removed. – Engage entities that can contribute to secure GEO activities (financial, political support, …). Incl. commercial sector. 3. Ensure activities’ outcomes shall benefit to society (last mile to end users). – Direct (end-to-end projects) or Indirect (outcomes used as input into a “Direct” activity) 4. Call for new proposals related to emerging themes e. g. Urbanisation, Innovative technologies, others, . . 5. Increase the synergy between ALL GEO activities (WP, Regional GEOSS, . . ).
