D. (Forestry), M. Sc. (Forestry) and B. Sc. (Forestry) in the University of Helsinki, Finland. His working experience covers occupations in Finland abroad. He has been, for instance) Rector of the University of Joensuu (today University of Eastern Finland (1990 -1998), the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry (1986 -90 and 1998 - 2001) of the University of Joensuu (1983 -85) and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Joensuu. He has held the professorship (Production of Wood and Peat for Energy), of the University of Joensuu since 1983 (emeritus 2012 -). He was a visiting Scientist of Ontario Tree Improvement and Forest Biomass Institute (1981 -82) in Ontario (Canada) and Director of the Suonenjoki Experimental Station of FFRI, Finland (1977 -81). He was member of the executive board and chairman of the council of bioscience and environmental research of the Academy of Finland (2006 -2012). He was Academic Director of the University of Finland (2013 -2019). D. (For & Agr, 2009) and M. Sc. (For & Agr, 2005) at the University of Joensuu (today University of Eastern Finland, UEF). He is Forest Engineer, MSc & BSc (For Eng, 2004, 1999) at the University of Lleida (Spain) and MSSc (Human Geo, 2014) at the UEF. His research experience covers occupation in Finland, Sweden and Norway. He is Adj. Professor (docent level, 2012) at the UEF, Asc. Prof (docent level, 2014) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala, Sweden), and Professor (SKO 1183, 2014) at the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy Research (Ås, Norway). He has been visiting scholar at the North West Agr. & For. University in Yangling (China) and at the Federal University of Paranà in Curitiba (Brazil), among others. His research interest covers the production of biomass from forest and plantations and modelling of risk and disturbances on natural resource, as well as forest science-based training and education of multi-cultural student groups. Since 2009, he has led a research group resulting in 4 Ph. D graduates, 11 MSc thesis graduates, and 1 BSc thesis. Currently, he is responsible for research related to forest bioenergy at the UEF and 4 MSc degree courses related to statistics, biomass production and bioenergy markets (17 ECTS). He is co-author of +70 SCI articles (Q 1: 41, h-index=21 Wo. S), plus a number of publications in other indexed journals, peer-reviewed book chapter, peerreviewed international proceedings, chapters and full reports, abstracts at international conferences and scientific proceedings as editor.
