— Measurement principle Coriolis Mass Flowmeters – Principle of operation Based on coriolis force

— Measurement principle Coriolis Mass Flowmeters – Principle of operation Based on coriolis force • The tube vibration is generated by an electromagnetic coil in the center of the tubes • In addition to the operation without flow, Coriolis forces create a phase shift between inlet and outlet of the meter, the tubes start to „twist“. • The phase shift is proportional to the mass flow. • The frequency of the tube vibration is proportional to the density of the fluid. — Product. Selection. Assistant – PSA Swirl. Master – Principle of operation Inside the Swirl. Master, a stationary turbine rotor is located in the inlet. The medium is forced to rotate and flows through the meter tube of the Swirl. Master in a thread like rotation. The swirl stabilize the cylindrical section of the meter tube. Housing Senso r Sensor The rotation velocity at the wall is relatively small and increase towards the tube center until a stable vortex core is formed at center. In the expanding section of the tube, the vortex core is displaced because of a backflow. The Vortex core forms a spiral like secondary rotation, whose frequency is linear proportional to flow rate. — Product. Selection. Assistant – PSA Swirl. Master – How to size the flowmeter

— Product. Selection. Assistant – PSA Swirl. Master – How to size the flowmeter Nominal diameter selection • • Operating flow (Actual flow) Selection is done on the basis of the max. operating flow Qvmax. If maximum spans are to be achieved, this should not be less than half the maximum flowrate for each nominal diameter (Qvmax. DN), although reduction to approx. 0. 15 Qvmax. DN is possible. The linear lower range limit value is dependent upon the Reynolds number (see accuracy information at data sheet). Standard or Mass flow If the flow to be measured is present as a standard flow (standard condition eg. 0 °C (32 °F), 1. 013 mbar) or Mass flowrate, this must be converted to the operating flow and the most appropriate nominal device diameter must be selected from the flow range tables. — Product. Selection. Assistant – PSA Vortex. 0 °C (32 °F), 1. 013 mbar) or Mass flowrate, it must be converted to the operating flow and the most appropriate nominal device diameter must be selected. The heating current [Ih]is proportional to the mass flow rate 280 km/h 400 Velocity in a 40 mm pipe The simple relation is: low gas flow – low heating current, high gas flow – high heating current. — Product. Selection. Assistant – PSA Variable Area Flowmeters – Principle of operation Two type VA-flowmeters available Glas Tube Metal Tube Principle of operation The flowrate of liquids, gases and steam can be determined with variable area flowmeters. The measured medium flows (upward) through a conical tube whose diameter is larger at the top than at the bottom: • The upward flowing fluid lifts the float located inside the tube. • The height of the float in the tube is a measure of the flowrate. • The value of the flowrate can be read from a scale. Glass tube flowmeters The measured value can be read directly from a scale. Metal tube flowmeters The transmission of the float position to the indicator is accomplished by a magnetic coupling system consisting of a permanent magnet located in or on the float and a permanent magnet follower on the indicator axis. The follower system does not lose its coupling even when the float takes a sudden jump due to a flow rate change. March 3, 2021 Slide 72
