Product Lifecycle Management CATIA V 5 and SMARTEAM help MASCHIO harvest big cycle savings § Customer Background o MASCHIO GROUP of Italy is a leading global supplier of agricultural machinery, including its MASCHIO brand soil preparation machinery and GASPARDO brand planting machines. (Not critical) o o o Outdated 2 D CAD and 3 D system used by the MASCHIO and Gaspardo division contributing to time-consuming, costly errors. Outdated PDM systems at MASCHIO increasing manual processes and decreasing time available for design. An 18 -month product cycle significantly longer than the 12 -month agricultural growing season, impacting sales and profits. § Solution Implementation o o o 20 seats of CATIA V 5 at MASCHIO and GASPARDO for product development Implement 20 seats of SMARTEAM for collaboration at both divisions Capture and reuse corporate knowledge and standardize processes § Benefits of the Solution o o o 55% decrease in product cycle time, from 18 months to 10 months 50% improvement in designer productivity 70% quality improvement in MASCHIO division Ease of use and training Increased focus on design alternatives leading to more innovative designs © 2003 IBM Corporation § Business Challenges
Product Lifecycle Management MASCHIO harvests productivity bounty with CATIA V 5 and SMARTEAM § The Industry § The Challenge Both design groups needed to reduce cycle times from 18 months to less than a year to ensure new products perfectly fit ever changing market need (Laws, size of seed…). But MASCHIO's 2 D CAD system and aging PDM system and GASPARDO's aging 3 D CAD system couldn’t deliver the efficiencies needed to meet these goals. § The Solution Both divisions chose CATIA V 5 for and SMARTEAM. By improving the efficiency of the design process, both companies were able to try more alternatives to design challenges and produce better designs with less prototyping. SMARTEAM captures and automates working processes, improving accuracy and ensuring corporate standards are met consistently. § The Customer Benefits Cycle times have been reduced 55%, from 18 months to 8 months, while designer productivity improved 50%. Quality at MASCHIO improved 70% due to the integration of 3 D designs. “All companies face the same issue: Meet the customer requirements and reduce the time-to-market. CATIA and SMARTEAM are the best answer. ” – Max Crozzoli, Technical Director, MASCHIO GROUP © 2003 IBM Corporation MASCHIO GROUP of Italy is a worldwide leader in the design and production of agricultural machinery. The company’s two commercial brands are MASCHIO, which specializes in working the soil, and GASPARDO, which focuses on planting and harvesting.
Product Lifecycle Management Crop cycle shorter than product cycle As a leading global supplier of agricultural machinery, including its MASCHIO brand soil preparation machinery and GASPARDO brand planting machines, Italy’s MASCHIO GROUP is famous for helping farmers increase their productivity. But the rapidly growing, 580 -person company was facing productivity problems of its own due to outdated design software used the by both MASCHIO Group divisions and outdated data management software used in one division. In 2002, the team turned to IBM Business Partner CSR, which had helped the GASPARDO division implement CATIA V 5 from IBM and Dassault Systemes in 1999. Based on GASPARDO’s positive experience with CATIA V 5, the MASCHIO division decided to replace its 2 D CAD system with CATIA V 5, and both divisions chose SMARTEAM for product data management to implement a full PLM solutions. The results have been nothing short of spectacular. Development cycle times have been cut 55%, from 18 months to 8 months. Designers find they are 50% more productive, creating time to explore more design alternatives and resulting in more innovative products. “All companies face the same issue: Meet the customer requirements and reduce the time-to-market.
