We’ve come a long way!
The Chemical Processing Industry s s s s Refinery Chemical Plant Pharmaceuticals Power Generation Food Processing Water Treatment Paper & Pulp Mining
History of Process Technology s Started in 1994 at Lee College s Started in response to Process Safety Management and - Bhopal India - Exxon Valdez - Phillips Explosion - ARCO Explosion
History Continued s Required Industry to Work with Education to develop Standardized Curriculum. “PARTNERSHIP” s Ten Core College Classes Developed including: PHYSICS and CHEMISTRY
Why is Physics Important? s Process Technicians control the following variables: - Pressure - Temperature - Level - Flow - Analytical
Why is Physics Important? s Process Technicians must understand the chemistry and physics associated with the systems they operate.
Training for Physics Teachers s Review advanced technology being used in the CPI - computer console operation DCS - variables being monitored and controlled - instrumentation and electronics - equipment & technology - use of simulations in instruction - see what is applicable for the student • Job Shadowing
