Cultural x Social x Moral x Spiritual Year 8 News Sophie Harrison What's Going on in Year 8? Christmas is drawing closer each week and the festive spirit is being shared in house competitions and various events around school. Students in all years are determined to win the house cup and with house events being introduced each week, there are plenty of opportunities for them to do so. Recently, the house assemblies took place. The task was for the house captains to collect letters from around the room to form the missing Christmasrelated words from various sentences. Congratulations to Castille, who managed to spell out all of the six words in the time given and to the runners up Sempringham. This, alongside the many house events running, will be a valuable count towards the end of year house total. This year, the school is collecting for Foodbank once again and the item that Year 8 s are being asked to donate is evaporated, dried, condensed or UHT milk. Fresh milk is not allowed. All of the students’ generous donations will contribute towards feeding the hungry in and around Lincoln. Thank you to all of those who have gifted one of these items, but if you haven’t yet done so, don’t worry because the deadline is Friday 16 th December. However, donations given on Monday 19 th will most probably also be accepted. Results for the Letter to Santa Competition were released earlier this week and we’re glad to say that there are three winners: Elise Urquhart (8. 1), Carys Kerr (7. 1) and Hermione Dickinson (9. 4). Well done to all of those who entered and there are no 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd prizes as Mrs Allan thought that all of the winning entries were at an equally high standard.

Film of The Week James Ghest ‘Passengers’ is the name of the 2016 sci-fi romance film directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts. It is set to be released on 21 st December. The story follows Jim Preston and Aurora Dunn (Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence) when they wake up 90 years too soon from a 120 year long hibernation to a new planet on ‘the Avalon’, holding 5000 other people. When they discover that there is a greater threat to the people of the Avalon, they grow close as they must work to save them. The script for the film was first written way back in 2007, and also stars Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Aurora Perrineau. The film is unusual because the majority of its runtime is based around the 2 central characters , with very little other major cast members.
