Haggai 1: 3 -4 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: "Is it a time for yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin? "
Haggai 1: 5 -6 a Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough.

Haggai 1: 14 … and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD Almighty, their God …
Prioritized Living Haggai 1: 1 -15
The book of Haggai tells you how to get your priorities straight
In 586 B. C. , the Babylonians conquered Judah
In 539 B. C. , Persia conquered Babylon
In 538 B. C. , Persia allowed Judah to return to their land
In 536 B. C. , Judah started rebuilding the temple
In 534 B. C. , they stopped work on the temple
Haggai • called to be God’s prophet to confront Israel • born in Judah • a captive in Babylon/Persia • among the 50, 000 returnees to the Promised Land
On August 29, 520 B. C. , Haggai gave his first message
Haggai says: Put God first in your life
What does it mean to put God first? What are God’s expectations for a prioritized life?
Here in Haggai 1: 1 -15, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we learn: God’s three expectations for a prioritized life
I. Prioritized living follows God’s will (verses 2 -4)
1. Follow God without excuses “the time has not come …”
Haggai 1: 2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "These people say, ‘The time has not yet come for the LORD’s house to be built. ’"
5 reasons why people do not follow God’s will • Fear • Busyness • Discouragement • Materialism • Misplaced priorites
2. Follow God without self-interest “Is it a time for you …? ”
Matthew 16: 24 “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. ”
Haggai 1: 3 -4 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: "Is it a time for yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin? "

Matthew 16: 26 “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? ”
Put God first in your life
Matthew 6: 33 “But seek first Hs kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ”
Colossians 1: 18 “ …that in everything He might have the supremacy. ”
II. Prioritized living connects God’s blessings (verses 5 -11)
1. Selfish priorities bring hardships “harvested little …”
Haggai 1: 5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. ”
Haggai 1: 6 a You have planted much, but have harvested little.
Haggai 1: 6 b “You eat, but never have enough. ”
Haggai 1: 6 c “You drink, but never have your fill. "
Haggai 1: 6 d “You put on clothes, but are not warm"
Haggai 1: 6 e “You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it. "
Haggai 1: 7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. ”
Haggai 1: 9 a "You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. "
Haggai 1: 9 b "What you brought home, I blew away. ”
Haggai 1: 9 c “ ‘Why? ’ declares the LORD Almighty. ”
Haggai 1: 9 c "Because of My house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house. ”
Haggai 1: 10 "Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. ”
1 John 2: 15 “Do not love the world or anything in the world …”
2. God’s priorities replaces ours “I called for a drought”
Haggai 1: 8 “Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored, " says the LORD.
Haggai 1: 11 “I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands. "
Colossians 3: 2 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ”
Put God first in your life
III. Prioritized living obeys God’s commands (verses 12 -15)
1. Obedience is reverence “the people feared the Lord”
Haggai 1: 12 a Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people …
Haggai 1: 12 a Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God ….
Haggai 1: 12 b … and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD.
“God's commands are designed to guide you to life's very best. You will not obey Him, if you do not believe Him and trust Him. You cannot believe Him if you do not love Him. You cannot love Him unless you know Him. ” Henry Blackaby
Mark’s Devotional Plan • Read 5 Psalms every day • Read 1 chapter of Proverbs every day • Read Old Testament reading • Read New Testament reading • Spend some time in prayer • Journal a few lines of meditation
“The fear of the LORD adds length to life …” Proverbs 10: 27
2. Obedience is action “they came and began to work”
Haggai 1: 13 Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: "I am with you, " declares the LORD.
Haggai 1: 14 a So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest ….
Haggai 1: 14 b … and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD Almighty, their God …
Haggai 1: 15 … on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius.
Haggai 1: 1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai …
Haggai 1: 15 … on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius.
