Word-Processing Terms > Typeface • The physical design of the letters, numbers, or symbols characterized by their ornamentation but not their size. > Font • A collection of letters, numbers, and symbols bearing the style of a typeface but varying in size. • E. g. : Bold, 10 point, Times New Roman Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2017. Word-Processing Terms > Tab • Enables you to move the cursor a preset number of spaces to a specific point in the document. • Using the Tab key on the keyboard, you may jump forward and backward through the document. • Tabs and tab stops may be set in the paragraph options of your word processing software. Word-Processing Terms > Margins • Margins are the blank space to the left and right sides and at the top and bottom of a page. > Header/Footer • The header is one or more lines of text that appear at the top of every page in a document. • The footer consists of lines of text that appear at the bottom of every page in a document. Word-Processing Terms > Line Spacing • Line spacing refers to the number of blank spaces between lines of text. • Single space is commonly used for general typing. • Line spacing may be set in the paragraph options of the wordprocessing software. Word-Processing Terms > Spelling/Grammar Check • Most word-processing software has built-in spelling and grammar checks. • If the software thinks there is an error in spelling or grammar, the offending word or phrase will be underlined. • Correction options are usually given for the errors. Word-Processing Terms > Copy • To copy is to duplicate selected text, cells, or objects in the document. > Cut • To cut is to remove selected text, cells, or objects from the document. > Paste • To paste is to add text, cells, or objects back into the document.
