 Growth and development are constantthat means that many aspects of your growth are

Growth and development are constantthat means that many aspects of your growth are unchanging Two reasons for this: 1) We are constantly learning new skills and obtaining knowledge 2) One stage always prepares the way the next, for example making sounds before talking.

 Growth and development are gradual and continuous. 1) A baby does not grow

Growth and development are gradual and continuous. 1) A baby does not grow up overnight. 2) small steps are needed to reach milestone. Ex: crawl then walk 3) a negative aspect is that poor growth and development are not easily reversed

 Growth and development happen in sequenced steps Growth develops in stages called milestones.

Growth and development happen in sequenced steps Growth develops in stages called milestones. The steps in growth follow each other in a set order called sequenced steps. Ex: walking then running Milestones help those that work with children by giving them ideas about teachable moments. Teachable moments are when a person can learn a new task at an optimal time.

 Growth and development happen at different rates 1) People development at different rates,

Growth and development happen at different rates 1) People development at different rates, some earlier than others. 2) When a child is developing at an optimal time it is called an age norm. 3) Children can have a delay in development or an acceleration. 4) Many reasons for children develop at different rates: a) genes b)gender c)environmental influences d) motivation

 Growth and development are interrelated All aspects of a child’s development and growth

Growth and development are interrelated All aspects of a child’s development and growth are interrelated – (physical, intellectual, social, and emotional) that means they interact in complex ways. Ex: hungry or sleepy children will not learn as well as children that have eaten breakfast and had a good night’s rest.
