Curriculum Outline What is the Curriculum initiative? The office ran consultations with teachers and leaders in early 2020, this work highlighted the challenges teachers experience when it comes to teaching the curriculum. A working group of teachers from across the Archdiocese are now conducting a comprehensive review of existing curriculum resources identify high-quality resources to make available to schools. The group will also determine professional learning opportunities that would support strong instruction in how to use these materials. The review has commenced with K-6 Mathematics but will be expanded to incorporate other curriculum areas and year levels. How will this help me? ü Access peer reviewed, high-quality curriculum resources to inform the development of effective teaching and learning programs ü Focus your planning time on improving teaching and supporting student learning, instead of searching for the best curriculum resources ü Participate in effective professional learning opportunities that enhance and deepen your subject expertise

High Impact Teaching Practice Components Online Units Professional Learning Sessions Designed to provide teachers with the knowledge and theory required to effectively participate in the professional learning sessions. Schools will decide whether the online units are completed as a whole-staff, professional learning community or individually. Core Units Introduction: Understanding the Catalyst program Unit 1: The science of learning and power of review Unit 2: Explicit teaching and structuring lessons Unit 3: Student engagement and classroom management Unit 4: Formative assessment and feedback Unit 5: Reading science Unit 6: Data, assessment and intervention Unit 7: High Impact Practices for writing Unit 8: High Impact Practices for numeracy Session 1: Catalyst kick-off Introduction to the system-wide approach to teaching and learning and introduction to High Impact Teaching Practice Session 2: Introduction to High Impact Teaching Practice The evidence linking High Impact Teaching Practice with student outcomes and how this can be applied in the classroom. Other sessions are currently being developed. Tailored Units Primary Review research from cognitive psychology about how students learn and the implications for classroom practice. Teachers observe demonstrations of High Impact Practice and gain hands-on practical experience in the delivery of High Impact instruction, supported by experts. Coaching Secondary Unit 9: Data, assessment and intervention Unit 10: High Impact Practices for writing Unit 11: Advanced science of learning A structured follow-up to the content covered in the professional learning sessions and online modules. Coaches will support the implementation of High-Impact Teacher Practice in classrooms.

Core Units Introduction: Understanding the Catalyst program Unit 1: The science of learning and power of review Unit 2: Explicit teaching and structuring lessons Unit 3: Student engagement and classroom management Unit 4: Formative assessment and feedback Unit 5: Reading science Tailored Units Primary Unit 6: Data, assessment and intervention Unit 7: High Impact Practices for writing Unit 8: High Impact Practices for numeracy Secondary Unit 9: Data, assessment and intervention Unit 10: High Impact Practices for writing Unit 11: Advanced science of learning The Instructional Leadership program offers five professional learning sessions, spanning core focus areas that will build on each principal’s skills to become the best leader possible. Topics such as effective mindsets and practices, assessment and intervention, improving curriculum resource usage and the role of an instructional leader will form part of these professional learning sessions. Mentoring Sessions • Set improvement focus for 2021 and prepare for Catalyst program implementation • Support to deliver program and overcome challenges • Review progress, refine improvement focus for 2022 and identify strategies to embed and sustain improvement
