Agenda • Getting Games – Notification – Accepting/Declining • Printing Schedules • Communicating – Blocking Dates/Times • • Getting Paid Helping the Young Ref Succeed Uniforms Problems
Getting Games • Games come via “offers” from the Assignor • This Assignor uses an Internet program call the Arbiter. net • Assignor balances what is best for the ref and best for the match
Game Notification • Receive an email
Log Into Arbiter • Make sure that your home (start) page displays Announcements from PWSRA
Log Into Arbiter • If the center text is not from PWSRA but from My. Referee, you will need to change it
Log Into Arbiter • My. Referee is a free subscription service but is not the content new referees need to be reading • One can always click on the My. Referee link at the bottom of the page to view this information • If your home page displays My. Referee content, please change it • Click on My. Referee Profile which is under the Account Heading on the bottom left of the page • Then Uncheck the box Set My. Referee as Start Page – and click Save
Uncheck this box
Log Into Arbiter • Click on Schedule
(1) Usually offers will be grouped – Accept or Decline All (2) Notice legend colors (3) Show All shows games in the past as well (4) Click on Game Number to see others in crew
This shows the three people offered this assignment. In this example, Kayla has been “notified” which means she has logged in and seen the offer but hasn’t acted on it. Tyler is a good ref. He has accepted it.
Notice the color is now purple since I have been notified of the assignment. (The Assignor sees this too. )
Click Accept or Decline. Notice that there is a date it must be accepted by or the offer will expire.
Here is an Accepted Schedule. Once you accept it belongs to you. The best way to print is not through the browser but by the Reports/Schedule icon.
Make sure your dates are right or…
Change your dates in User Preferences (from main menu)
Print and carry this with you to the field
Communicating w/ Assignor • Email preferred • But if less than 72 hours, please phone and talk with the Assignor • Use Calendar Blocks to communicate when you are not available • An open calendar is your notice to this Assignor that you want games
To block a Day, click on Block All Day under Action then click on the day
To block a range of dates, click on Block All Day, then on Date Range and then click on the days that you want that applied. Then click Apply.
Blocking (cont. ) • Same procedure for blocking partial days or clearing blocks
Blocking (Cont. ) • Some Important Notes • A declined assignment automatically blocks the full date for the referee • An expired assignment automatically blocks the full date for the referee • Only the Assignor can remove a “declination” block
Blocking (Cont. ) • This assignor lives by the availability generated by the calendar blocks, or lack thereof • Track declined offers and expired offers • Expired offers are worse and may lead to no more offers • If you decline, a brief email explanation will generally help
Getting Paid • Yes, you do • Two weeks after the end of the season • Except, youth referees who work eight or more games by the fourth week will receive a mid-season check by attending our mid-season meeting (tentatively set for mid October)
Communication and Emails • My preference is a parent’s email address be used for refs under 16 • Game notices go to this email address • Either parent or young referee can log in anytime and check schedules • But would like the referee’s email address too (for mass mailings)
Helping the Young Ref Succeed • Same responsibility as showing up for work or school • Refs must be at field 30 minutes prior • Help organize the young ref’s paperwork • Read what we send • Ensure game reports are completed promptly • Contact me with any questions any time
Uniforms • Recommended: A kit consisting of Short-sleeved gold jersey Shorts Socks Whistle w/ lanyard (not neck, please) Data Wallet w/ cards, score sheet • Available for less than $50
Problems • Parents: Immediately contact me if your child comes home crying, moody (more than normal for a young teen), or upset at something that occurred while he/she was a ref • Referees: Immediately contact me if you go home crying, moody (more than normal), or upset at something that occurred while you were a ref
