Prince Edward County Elementary School Volunteer Program • Volunteers are an important part of the PECES family and serve in various capacities, which include: First Day of School Reading/Math Support Arts and Crafts Special Events Recycling Cafeteria Supervision • Our volunteer program is organized and managed by Mrs. Clark-Reed, an Assistant Principal at PECES. • ALL PECES volunteers must complete the Volunteer Orientation Process for the safety of our students.

Volunteer Orientation Process 3 Simple Steps 1. Complete both sides of the Volunteer Application Form and return it to the school 2. Complete the Volunteer Training Orientation - Online 3. Complete the Online Volunteer Training Quiz This process must be completed each school year. Once you have completed all of the steps, please allow 5 business days for confirmation of approval. You will be notified via email once your process has been finalized. A master list of approved volunteers will be kept in the front office for use by administrators and teachers. The list will be updated frequently.

Volunteer Communication How do I find out about volunteer opportunities? • Volunteer needs are primarily communicated in the following ways: • Teacher to the Volunteer Coordinator • Volunteer Coordinator to Approved Volunteer • Teacher to Approved Volunteer • PECPS Website and Social Media • If you have any questions regarding volunteering at PECES, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Mrs. Clark-Reed at 434. 315. 2110 or shelly. clarkreed@pecps. k 12. va. us.

Volunteer Expectations Tips for a successful experience as a PECES Volunteer! • Always park in our visitor parking lot. It is the closest to the main office. • Under no circumstances should a volunteer park in the bus loop in front of the school. This area is for buses (during drop off and dismissal). • Always sign in at the front office as a VOLUNTEER and wear the name tag provided. It should be visible at all times. • First time volunteers need to have their driver’s license scanned into our computer for security purposes. • Please try to be prompt and consistent in your attendance. If you cannot make it to your volunteer placement, please notify the Volunteer Coordinator and the person you are scheduled to work with.

Volunteer Expectations Tips for a successful experience as a PECES Volunteer! • Volunteers are expected to dress appropriately for the event/activity in which they are helping with. • Volunteers are asked to make necessary childcare arrangements for their younger children before volunteering at PECES. • Volunteers are required to inform the Volunteer Coordinator and teacher(s) about their availability to volunteer in classrooms.

Volunteer Expectations Tips for a successful experience as a PECES Volunteer! FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) • When helping in the public school setting, volunteers are neither allowed to teach students or grade papers. Support may be given, but no direct content instruction. • Be discreet and trustworthy with any and all confidential matters relating to the school, classroom, and/or students. • Volunteers are asked not to enter into any of the back office areas or the upper teacher workroom. This is to protect the confidentiality of our students. • Under no circumstances are volunteers allowed to access student records (which may include but is not limited to - disciplinary information, attendance records, grades or performance information). • Our student’s privacy is of the utmost importance!
