IMGS Who are we? We deliver innovative spatial solutions for the desktop, web and mobile Built on our partner’s technology Intergraph Safe Software Leica Geosystems Designed to meet the challenges of Government, Mapping Agencies and Utility & Communications Customers Our customers include ESB, Eircom, Meteor, BT, NIE, Dublin Regional Water and Drainage GIS, OSI, OSNI (LPS) and 34 Local Authorities
Shortest Path Modeling The challenge In Ireland there wasn’t a fully connected road model Local Authorities did manage road networks But wasn’t freely available May not have been a clean connected model Before PRIME 2 OSI provided a cartographic model For Utilities shortest path calculations could only be done by Creating and maintaining their own network model (costly) Using Google Maps or Tele Atlas (which were not always accurate)
Shortest Path Modeling The Solution PRIME 2 contains: a fully connected accurate attribute driven road model network for Ireland Making shortest path modeling a viable cost effective option requiring minimal effort to calculate routes
Shortest Path Modeling Route Modelling Using Safe Software FME Powering the flow of spatial data with FME Enabling people to use their spatial data where, when and how they want to Most Used Spatial Interoperable Solution in Ireland
FME Capabilities § The only complete spatial ETL solution § Translate spatial data from one format to another § Transform spatial data into the precise data model you need § Integrate different data types into a single data model § Distribute spatial data to users where, when and how they need it 7
FME Capabilities § The only complete spatial ETL solution Translate spatial data from one format to another 300+ supported formats in FME 2013 Transform spatial data into the precise data model you need 400+ data transformation tools 8
Shortest Path Modelling in FME Transformer: Shortest Path Finder Calculates the shortest route between two given points on a network Shortest route in terms of distance Shortest route in terms of cost Weighting based on an attribute such as road speed limit
Shortest Path Modelling in FME Transformer: Shortest Path Finder (FME 2012) Previously only calculated one path on each network Required a Cloner to duplicate one copy of the network for each route
Shortest Path Modelling in FME Transformer: Shortest Path Finder (FME 2013) Multiple Route Support now available in FME 2013 Can now take single network and calculate multiple routes Route definition changed Previously start and end point Now a line with start/end vertices Point. Connector transformer or From. To. Builder Can include intermediate points en-route Relationships 1: 1, 1: M, M: 1, M: M
Demonstration
Other uses for PRIME 2 advanced feature model Job Routing “Travelling Sales Man” Plans (multiple stops in one route) New build designs (can also use skin of the earth model from PRIME 2 to avoid private lands, bogs, rivers etc) Telecom networks Water networks Gas networks
Virgin Media – Distance to Duct Virgin Media needed easy to use tool to calculate cost of new Fibre connections which can vary considerably depending on size of new build Distance to Duct Service calculates optimum route using underlying Ordnance Survey land base Costs take into account type of road as well as overall distance
Benefits Reduce travel costs Improved customer satisfaction through increased response times Decrease capital costs through more efficient new network designs
