Aims/Purpose Of My Research The purpose of my questionnaire was to help me identify

Aims/Purpose Of My Research The purpose of my questionnaire was to help me identify the relevant information about the target audience of my magazine to ensure that the magazine that I make will fit the needs of my target audience and make it a success.

Methods and Techniques To collect the research that I required I made a questionnaire

Methods and Techniques To collect the research that I required I made a questionnaire of 14 questions which would give me quantitative data that would enable me to find out all of the relevant research that I needed to know about my target audience. I then asked five people within the target audience age boundaries of my magazine (16 -20) and collected their opinions through my questionnaire. I then put my results in to tally charts and then into a pie chart or a bar chart for each question, to give a clear presentation of what my results found.

Question One - What is your age? I would like my target audience age

Question One - What is your age? I would like my target audience age to be at least 16 -20 year olds. I tried to ensure that the people I approached to take my questionnaire were between those ages. My data shows that the majority of people who answered my questionnaire were between the ages of 16 -18.

Question Two - What is your gender? I have planned to target my magazine

Question Two - What is your gender? I have planned to target my magazine to a female target audience therefore when I collected my results I asked more females and males to get their opinions of how they would like a music magazines etc. Although my target audience is females, I ensured that my data was fair by approaching males too.

Question Three – What is your occupational status? I then asked what occupations of

Question Three – What is your occupational status? I then asked what occupations of the people who answered my questionnaire were, so I could have an idea of their income etc. My data told me that the majority of the people between the ages of 16 -20 were in full time education, only one person that I asked had a full time job. This shows me that my magazine may have to be at a slightly lower price and issued monthly rather than weekly as the majority of people within my target audience may not being able to pay a higher amount of money every week.

Question 4 – What are your hobbies/interests? As a result of my target audience

Question 4 – What are your hobbies/interests? As a result of my target audience being females it was no surprise that when I asked what were their hobbies and interests that the most popular answer was shopping. Therefore this has given me a good idea of the kind of adverts that should include in my magazine for example, music stores and other high street shops. One of my audience chose other, there hobbies/interests were football, but as a result of my magazine being more aimed at females, stereotypically, females are not interested in sport, this was proven in my questionnaire.

Question 5 – How often do you purchase magazines? I then asked my audience

Question 5 – How often do you purchase magazines? I then asked my audience how often they purchase magazines, as some people have no interest in magazines at all, my audience however do, the most popular time to purchase magazines if weekly or monthly. Usually this is when a magazine is released, either weekly or monthly so it is easy to assume that the magazines my audience purchase is the same one each week/month. Therefore if the magazine is good enough, my audience would be willing to buy it consistently.

Question 6 – Where do you usually purchase magazines? My next question asked where

Question 6 – Where do you usually purchase magazines? My next question asked where do my audience usually purchase magazines so I could then get an idea of what retailers I would place my magazine in, the most popular answer was the supermarket, and the second was at a newsagents. However, I will still place my product in all available places so that my magazine is easily accessible to whoever wants to read it and people are not limited to whereabouts they can buy my magazine.

Question 7 – How much do you usually spend on magazines? I asked my

Question 7 – How much do you usually spend on magazines? I asked my audience how much they usually spend on magazines so I could get a clear idea of what my audience would be willing to pay for a magazine, and what they would consider a reasonable price. I want my magazine to be considered a great read, as well as reasonable in price and placing. My data shows that my audience usually spend both £ 1. 00 -£ 1. 50 and £ 3. 00 -£ 3. 50.

Question 8 – How often would you like my pop magazine to be released?

Question 8 – How often would you like my pop magazine to be released? I then gave my audience the chance to choose when they would most like my magazine to be released so they could ensure that they had the money to buy the magazine when it came out etc. My data shows that my audience would prefer for my magazine to be released, surprisingly, fortnightly. I think this may be a good idea as it ensures the magazine doesn’t become repetitive and always keeps the reader interested.

Question 9 – Would you be willing to pay £ 2. 00 for my

Question 9 – Would you be willing to pay £ 2. 00 for my Pop music magazine? As a result of the majority of my audience being students or only having part time jobs, my magazine needs to make a profit but still be reasonable, especially if it is only going to be released fortnightly. Therefore I gave my audience the opportunity to give their opinion on the prospective price of my magazine. My data shows that 80% of my audience would be willing to pay £ 2. 00 for my magazine.

Question 10 – What color scheme do you think would work best for a

Question 10 – What color scheme do you think would work best for a Pop magazine? I then asked my audience what colour scheme they think would be most suitable for a pop magazine. I felt this question would be effective because it would ensure that the magazine will stand out to readers, but also have positive connotations like classy and professional. 80% of my audience said that pink and black would be most suitable for my magazine.

Question 11 – What gifts/offers would you most like to see in my magazine?

Question 11 – What gifts/offers would you most like to see in my magazine? I wanted to get my audiences ideas on what gifts and offers they would most like to see in my magazine, as I think special offers and gifts can help a magazine sell. My data showed me that 80% of my audience would like to see concert tickets, however, 20% said other, that they would have liked to see holiday offers in my magazine.

Question 12 – Which features would you like to see in my Pop magazine?

Question 12 – Which features would you like to see in my Pop magazine? My final question asked my audience what features they would most like to see in my magazine, I think this was one of the most important questions, second to the colour scheme, as it is about the content and what the audience has to read. I don’t want my magazine to get boring and repetitive but I may use the most popular choices as ‘regulars’ in my magazine as I know that is what my audience most want to read. My data shows that 60% of my audience would like to see interviews and 40% would like to see Top 40 Album Chart
