Terminal Learning Objective Action: Introduction to Modernized Demolition Initiators

HISTORY • Developed in the late 40 s • Used in Civilian Market • Introduced to the Army in 1996

CONSIDERATIONS MDI DOES NOT CHANGE CHARGE EMPLACEMENT OR SETUP MDI IS STRICTLY AN IGNITION SYSTEM CHANGE.

CAPABILITIES Standard military demolition missions Deepwater up to 30 meters Quarrying(with special application). Instant or delay initiation Eliminates accidental initiation from static, transmitters, or electrical discharge Hybrid (two types of firing systems) MDI Stand Alone MDI/Det Cord, Det Cord/MDI

COMPONENTS M 12/M 13 -Cap M 15 -Cap M 11 -Cap M 14 Time Fuse M 9 Holder M 81 -FI 8

M 9 HOLDER USES: • Secure a blasting cap (small flap end) • Secure shock tubes to the blasting cap (larger flap) • Can secure up to five shock tubes for initiation PACKAGING: • 50 Ea Per box • 10 boxes per crate • Crate Total- 500

M 9 HOLDER SECURING SHOCK TUBE 1 -2 Shock Tubes Looped under holder 3 -5 Shock Tubes Tied in a knot

M 11 BLASTING CAP A branch line to a primary charge To ignite shock tube or detonating cord “High Strength Cap”

M 11 DESCRIPTION 2 FLAGS 1 YELLOW (two meters from cap) 1 RED (one meter from cap) J HOOK CONNECTOR Used to secure det cord PACKAGING • Individual coil— 30 ft. long • 6 coils per fiber board box • 10 boxes per crate • Crate Total= 60 coils

M 12 TRANSMISSION LINE Relay for the initiation pulse to another relay or high strength cap Low Strength Cap Command Detonation “ Transmission Line Only”

M 12 PACKAGING • 500 FT. per spool • 2 Ea spools per foil bag • 4 bags per crate • Crate total- 8 spools/ 4000 Ft.

M 13 TRANSMISSION LINE Relay for the initiation pulse to another relay or high strength cap Low Strength Cap Command Detonation “ Transmission Line Only”

M 13 PACKAGING • 1000 Ft spool • 1 spool per foil bag • 4 bags per crate • Crate Total= 4 spools/ 4000 Ft
