Primary 5 Writing Task
1. Complete the reading comprehension task before you start your writing. 2. One of the tasks in the reading comprehension is to think about a new child coming into school for the first time. Can you remember back to your first day At Trinity Primary School? 3. Can you write about it? Draw a picture to get you started.
Mrs. Jackson’s writing: My First Day at Trinity Primary School I put my hand out for my Dad to take. All I could hear was the chit chat of families as they walked through the school gate. My Mum reached for her camera for the 100 th time. My sister ran to her best friend Lily. I was terrified but excited at the same time. I recognised my new teacher, smiley face and shiny clothes. The day had finally come and with my brand new uniform and neatly brushed hair, I had arrived in Primary 1. I could see my friend Max and he ran to me asking to play. We climbed the mound, jumped off the tyres and got a bit dirty in the sand pit. The bell rang, we lined up and Mum and Dad said goodbye (tears from Mum). The classroom was scary, a large smart board, brown desks and a bit of a dirty carpet! Eventually playtime arrived and I could explore some more. The cage – football! – my favourite ever! The morning was over, I was exhausted! Mum met me outside – did I have to go again?
Points to think about: Draw a picture to get you started of your first day. Think about the people you met. How did you feel? What did you wear? What was your favourite thing? Who was your teacher? Was it Primary 1 or were you older. Use the sentence starters on the web page. Create a word of ideas. Don’t be scared to have a go at tricky spelling, read out your work to an adult. Ask an adult to write about their first day with you. Steal ideas!!!
Take all the time you need to do this task well! Send me your finished work and I will put it on the website. * Remember to read over the Set 2 and Set 3 sounds that I have put on your class web page as well.
Remember all of these things when you are writing - Speech marks Question marks Exclamation marks
