God our loving father, You have blessed us with the precious gift of life.

God our loving father, You have blessed us with the precious gift of life. You have created us with our own abilities and capacities, and with the potential for doing good. Help us to realise the plans you have for us. Enable us to cherish the precious gift of our bodies and the sanctity of all human life. Strengthen our resolve when we struggle to follow Jesus, and help us to stay close to him always. May your Holy Spirit inspire us to show love to others and to find love in all the good we do. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

State and Ecclesial Context Conduct of Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood Education December 2014

State and Ecclesial Context Conduct of Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood Education December 2014 – 39. The Scottish Government supports the right of the Roman Catholic Church to give witness to its faith, and to uphold the traditions of Catholic education. We value the contribution made by Catholic schools, and have no intention of changing the current position where faith aspects of the curriculum in Catholic schools are determined by the Scottish Catholic Education Service acting on behalf of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland. These faith aspects relate to religious education and religious observance. – 41. It is recognised that religious authorities with a role in denominational education provide guidance on RSHP education for their denominational schools and that right will continue as at present. This national guidance should be seen to be complementary to the guidance provided by the religious authority while at the same time serving as a useful basis for everyone. 7

GLP in the classroom (Pg 25) • Teachers should ensure that they carefully select resources which are appropriate to the age, stage and emotional maturity of the pupils • In any class, at any stage, there can be significant variations in the physical and /or emotional maturity of children. Accordingly a differentiated approach will be required, when introducing certain concepts or terminology or using certain resources, to ensure that each child’s needs are met appropriately • Given the sensitive nature of some of the issues covered, it is advisable that they are not covered until a point in the year by when teachers have been able to establish confident and secure working relationships with pupils

• Teachers may be required to deal with awkward questions in class. Adhering to professional standards and protocols will help teachers to deal appropriately and sensitively with these, in some cases by encouraging and facilitating discussions with parents and carers. • Teachers should be aware that children live in varying family contexts and should be sensitive to this, without compromising the Church’s moral teaching and vision for marriage and family life. • Teachers must of course, follow the school’s Child Protection protocols for dealing with any suspicions of children possibly suffering from forms of abuse.
