The Old Testament on Confession He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. Proverbs 28: 13
The New Testament on Confession If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1: 9
It doesn’t say… We should find a way to pay for our sins l Beat or cut our bodies l Sacrifice our children l Carry guilt and replay our sins over and over in our minds l
Definition of confess: ὁμολογέω (hom-ol-og-eo) – Means to say the same thing, to agree with, to concede, to admit or declare one’s self guilty of what one is accused of.
Seven Keys to Confession of Sin
Key #1 Realize that confession is part of your personal worship to God Passage: Daniel 9: 20
Key #2 Make It a habit to keep a short list
Key #3 As the Holy Spirit leads you, spend a prayer time devoted to confession
Key #4 Don’t rationalize your sin. As bad as it is to confess your sin and then do it five minutes later, what is worse is not to confess it at all.
Key # 5 Allow God to work through your sorrow which leads to “repentance without regret. ” Passage: II Corinthians 7: 8 -11
Key # 6 On occasion, confess your sins to a trusted believer. Passage: James 5: 16
