PREX II/ CREX Design Status Robin Wines February 2018 1
Hall Configuration Shielding support Resistive Q 1 Magnets Septum beam Scattering Chamber Collimator Septum Support 2
Status of Components • Scattering Chamber mountdesign shows chamber supported on existing target mount. Existing mount designed with center of gravity of target over center of plate. Alignment cartridges will not work with offset load as configured. Solved load centering issue by relocating cartridge positions 3
Status of Components • Collimator/Sieve Slit – Collimator is a modification of existing design used for Qweak experiment; water cooled Tungsten with Copper jacket. Water cooling from contained recirculating system. • Design of Tungsten complete and being fabricated in in-house shop. Shielding and collimator enclosure designed to be removed from beam line as a unit • Utilize existing Dynaflux R 1000 cooler with cooling capacity of 4 KW. Collimator requires 2 KW cooling. Cooler is recirculating system with 3 gallon reservoir. 4
Status of Components • Septum Magnet - Utilizing existing septum with design configuration of 3 sets of coils and shims. Coil replacement on order, delivery expected May 2018. - Using existing shims, need to modify mounting to accommodate rotation of magnet ends. 5
Status of Components • Power Supply- Using existing power supply for septum magnet. • Beam line – Using existing beam line with addition of magnetic shielding around bellows upstream and downstream of septum magnet. Shielding of beamline between Q 1 magnets either by addition of clamshell pieces or replace beamline Septum section. Clamshell pieces in fabrication for Tritium am e experiment. b Q 1 Top view with cut thru midplane at septum entrance Red is magnetic shielding around beam pipe 6
Status of Components • Vacuum Chambers – New chambers are required through septum to HRSs. Design complete. Finalize drawings after checking clearance in assembled septum magnet. • Collimator in entrance of Q 1 – New design to accommodate size of resistive SOS Q 1 magnet entrance. Otherwise simplified version of collimator used in PREX. 7
Status of Components Scattering Chamber • Septum support – New design for septum support and carriage to accommodate the installation of APEX and the shielding loads needed in PREX II/CREX. • Shielding – Shielding volumes and materials incorporated into configuration. (345 lb Tungsten, Concrete 1186 lb HDPE) Added sky shine shielding. Concrete (3. 7 ton concrete) Design concept of shielding support complete. Have requirements for beam Septum Dump shielding, need to Support Develop design. & Carriage 8
