New Mexico Pilot Magistrate Court ROR Program Project Purpose Expand New Mexico’s Metro Court Release on Recognizance (ROR) Program to rural counties. The Magistrate Court ROR program allows Court Intake Officers to authorize release of defendants arrested in rural counties for designated non-violent felony and misdemeanor offenses following verification of the defendant's identity and community ties and criminal history search. © NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS, 2018 11

New Mexico Pilot Magistrate Court ROR Program §Contract Court Intake Officers work from centralized location (Bernalillo County) §Conduct pretrial investigations for defendants arrested in rural counties §Rural county sends electronic message with biographical data needed for the investigation §Based on investigation, Intake Officer may authorize the local jail to release the defendant ROR or on non-financial conditions §Agreements executed in two rural counties §One contract officer trained and began working in late January © NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS, 2018 12
