Preston North End FC Academy Medical Provision Match Day Cover: UCLan Sports Arena Season 2017 / 2018

Preston North End Academy Medical Provision • There will be a Chartered Physiotherapist and a team of Sports Therapy Students on site during the Academy Games Programme. • The Physiotherapist will be located at Pitch 4 and will be available to discuss emergency equipment and localities if required with any coaching staff. PNE Coaching Staff will be responsible for ensuring location of Physiotherapist and Emergency Equipment are known to visiting coaches prior to the game. PNE Coaching Staff can contact PT if requiring medical assistance using hand-held radios • A Defibrillator will be located with PNE Physiotherapist at Pitch 4 as well as another Emergency Bag being placed on 4 G. UCLan have access to two defibrillators via their Main Reception and West Changing Facilities. An Academy Emergency Action Plan Procedure on Serious Life Threatening Situations can be seen on Slide 11. • PNE Physiotherapist / UCLan Sports Therapy Student will acutely manage your player and their symptoms whilst offering initial management advice. Your player will be suggested to be reviewed by your club's Physiotherapist prior to returning to training. The Medical Team will liaise with the Player, Parent (if present) and Coach in regards to medical advice if requiring increased attention and probable further assessment before facilitation of return to play. If a contact number or email address is provided, PNE Physiotherapist will hand-over their management and clinical impression of your player’s injury. • A Medical Room is available upon request to able treatment to an injured player. • The nearest A & E is the Royal Preston Hospital with directions & Map on Slide 12. • There is no qualified Doctor on-site.

Preston North End Academy Medical Provision – Opposition Non-Life Threatening Injury In the case that no opposition physio is present and a non-life threatening injury to an opposition player takes place, the following procedure will commence: 1. Opposition Coach to initially assess injury to player on-pitch 2. If required, PNE Sports Therapy Student can be requested to assess Player with Opposition Coach 3. If required, PNE Sports Therapy Student will notify PNE Academy Physio via handheld radio for further assistance who will resume management of the Player and his injury and symptoms. See next slide for information regarding the transfer of a Player from the field of play.

If Physiotherapist Pitchside : Physiotherapist to assess the person and make the following decisions: If Physiotherapist Not Pitchside : PNE Coach to call / radio Physiotherapist immediately, conduct initial assessment and make the following decisions: Unconscious Casualty (Unresponsive) Conscious Casualty (Responsive) Open Airway Incident Witnessed? No Yes No Breathing Normally Defibrillate within 3 minutes 2 Rescue Breaths 30 chest compressions Continue the above until the paramedics arrive Assistant Coach/Parent to Call 999 (Ambulance) Call 202 off the internal phone or 01772 761000 to contact a member of the Uclan Sports Arena. (Inform them of the: - 1. incident, 2. that an ambulance is on its way, 3. which pitch it is on, 4. tell them to have the gates already open & 5. to bring the Defibrillator & Oxygen Organise for medical staff and other coaches to come & assist Protect Cervical Spine & Maintain airway. Monitor ABCDE Monitor if circumstances change follow procedure for an Unconscious casualty A member of staff will accompany the player to the hospital and remain until a suitable handover with parents / guardian can take place
