Why is Mapping Important To Us? n County Assessor’s responsibility n Maps should reflect all changes n Maps used to identify, describe and assess real estate parcels for taxation
What Have We Evolved From? n County tax maps created by WV State Tax Department in 1960’s • Original maps produced as ink on mylar • In-office working copies were blue line reproductions • Parcel changes performed by STD
Mapping Begins to Change n GIS • A new tool for more detailed information n City style addressing • Concern of safety and emergency agencies n These concepts need to merge to benefit the community
The Past Year n n n Auto Desk Map 6 WV State Tax Mapping Department digitize and label rural districts Corporations digitized and labeled in county
Catching Up n n Two years of past splits plus current transfers Instruction from county surveyor Graduate student from GIS Tech Center Insert and inset maps stitched in by STD
The Need for a More Versatile Program n More flexibility necessary to produce tax maps in office n Arc View 8 n Training and conversion in process
