AUTHOR: R. J. PALACIO Raquel Jaramillo Palacio lives in New York City with her husband, two sons, and dogs. Before she wrote Wonder, she was an art director and book jacket designer. She always wanted to be a writer, but was waiting for the right time. She realized that the perfect time would never come, so she just went for it! Wonder is her first novel. © Presto Plans

WONDER Wonder was inspired by a real event in Palacio’s life! Palacio was with her children at an ice cream store and sat next to a little girl with a facial deformity. Her son cried, so she grabbed her children and left immediately. She realized afterwards that she should have started up a conversation and shown her children there was nothing to be afraid of. © Presto Plans

WONDER Palacio has a full time job, a husband, and two children. As a result, when writing Wonder, she would usually fall asleep around ten, wake up at midnight, and write for two to three hours when her family slept! © Presto Plans

WONDER R. J. Palacio hope for kids who read this novel: “I hope that kids will come away with the idea that they are noticed: their actions are noted. Maybe not immediately or directly or even in a way that seems obvious, but if they’re mean, someone suffers. If they’re kind, someone benefits. And the choice is theirs: whether to be noticed for being kind or for being mean. They get to choose who they want to be in this world.
