After the death of his wife in 1838, Monroe went to live with his daughter in New York City. • Did he have other jobs after his presidency? Yes! James Monroe became a regent at of the University of Virginia.

SUMMARY James Monroe was a good president and had strengths and weaknesses. Monroe was neither an intellectual, nor a political innovator. He was very talented at being practical of his ideals and policies. This obviously only had a positive impact on the U. S. Not only was James Monroe genuine, he was also very determined to achieve his goals. While others would question his decisions during presidency, he had good judgment and truly knew what was best for this country.
