PRESENTER’S GUIDE The purpose of the following presentation is to help you to share Khan Academy with the parents in your classroom. Anecdotally, we know that children are more likely to succeed with the support of both their teacher and parent on Khan Academy. Please use the following as a guide, editing and adjusting the material to meet your unique needs. You will see some suggestions of places to customize or adjust the presentation in green boxes sprinkled throughout the document. Khan Academy in our classroom! We will spend Tuesdays and Thursdays using Khan Academy for the last 30 minutes of our math class • During this time, I will be working with small groups of students on areas where they are struggling • In addition, we will set-up a peer tutoring bar, matching students who need extra help on a concept with students who have mastered it In addition, Khan Academy will be a part of our weekly homework assignments • Students will work through a recommended set of skills each week at home, working to master (at their own pace) this set of skills over the course of the week Note: Please customize this example depending on how you will be using Khan Academy with your classroom and what you want to share with parents! Encourage your child to learn! • Sign up for a Khan Academy parent account to review your child’s activity • Celebrate their successes • Help them when they are stuck • Remind them about the hints and associated videos • Learn something else new (e. g. , computer programming, art history) yourself or with your child! A KA parent account helps you see what your child is learning • Review your child’s activity at any time on your parent homepage • Receive weekly emails summarizing your child’s activity and highlighting ways you can support your child KHANACADEMY. ORG

Help your child learn to learn • Most of us are held back not by our innate ability, but by our mindset. We think intelligence is fixed, but it isn’t. Our brains are like a muscle. Signing up for a parent account takes only a few steps! Go to www. khanacademy. org 1. If you already have an account, log in. 2. If not, click “Parents, start here. ” 3. • Choose a signup option! • You will get an email to complete registration Once signup is complete, connect with your child by clicking ‘my child already has an account’ 4.
