Organization
§ SIHP Manager § This person is responsible for running our intern housing program. We hire this person in December for a January start date § Paid hourly Jan- May for about 15 hours per week. This rate depends on their status. (Grad student, previously employed with us, etc. ) Paid $4, 500 for full- time work the 12 weeks of summer. § The SIHP manager is responsible for marketing and all communication with interns and employers. During the summer, they have the day- to- day- responsibility for running the program with limited supervision. § We typically hire a graduating senior or graduate student.
§ These two students are post undergrad and directly supervise the 14 -18 Conference Assistants § Last year we hired 2 ACUHO-I Interns. § Salary is $5, 500 for the 12 week summer. § Attend client meetings, help with staff development, have weekly check- in meetings, attend all check-ins and checkouts. Also work on weekly schedule and newsletter for vendors. § Provide extra layer of support for student staff so that clients have excellent customer service.
§ Usually juniors or seniors. Preferably students who have worked with Conferences before. § Paid $4, 500 for the 12 - week summer; paid $1, 000 extra if they return for a second summer. § “Management Team”: Serve on a pager to problem- solve things other than lockouts. § Each CM checks every bill mailed out to clients and is responsible for “their piece” of it. § CM 1: Responsible for coordinating Keys, Parking, and all aspects of food services for all clients.
§ CM 2: responsible for all building facilities, serves as a liaison with custodial and maintenance, is the schedules all linen shifts. Works with our laundry vendor. § CM 3: In charge of our largest client as well as Special Olympics Georgia. § CM 4: In charge of scheduling all meeting space as well as all audio visual needs and staging. § CM 5: Front Desk 8 -5 M-F; In charge of all billing, supervises deskworkers.
§ Work 12 weeks and are paid a $3, 000 stipend. Make an extra $1, 000 if they return for a second year. § Are assigned 2 -5 clients–become the contact for the client when they come on board in late May. § Make all arrangements for the clients before their stay, and then are responsible for getting the final bill ready for approval. § Work other shifts including desk (concierge), linen, key pulls, check in/ outs, cafeteria, etc. § Scheduled for 30 hours a week or less with 2 days off.
§ Work 15 hours a week at our various desks in exchange for free housing. § Weekly check-ins with CM 5 but not required to come to staff meetings. § Deskworkers are the only position we allow to hold outside jobs except for the CA’s out at our intern housing § May increase the number of deskwokers as we cut the number of CA’s because of less business this summer § Allowed to have outside jobs, take classes, etc.
§ Set application deadlines after you know what your business will be for the summer § Work for free housing? § Get perks for your student workers at no cost to you. (gym, parking, food services) § Share student staff with vendors and clients when possible § Hire solely on lines of business, focusing on repeat programs § Share staff with Residence Life

§ This model gives students real responsibility. Student staff are motivated by not doing “ busy work” § Willing to adapt to new technology § Marketing the transferable skills and investing in students § Giving them the people they want to work with
