Tansen was the only child of a singer named Mukandan Mishra and his wife, who lived in Behat near Gwalior. As a child Tansen was very naughty, but he was also talented, as he imitated perfectly the calls of birds and animals. Tansen Some of the courtiers became jealous of Tansen and so he was asked to sing Raga Deepak as a result of which he will be burnt to ashes. Tansen taught his daughter Saraswati and her friend Rupvati to sing Raga Megh to bring rain to save himsef. Tansen Akbar was sorry that he had caused Tansen so much suffering and he punished Tansen’s enemies. Tansen remained Akbar’s court singer till 1585 when he died. He composed several new ragas.
