Susquehanna Bridge • Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded $22 M to MDOT to support Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Documentation (NEPA) of a new Susquehanna River crossing for Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (NEC). • Final agreements between FRA, MDOT, and Amtrak are in place and work should begin in 2013. • Estimated time for completion is 3 -4 years.
NEC Future • FRA undertaking comprehensive review of NEC from Boston to Washington D. C. • Two components of NEC Future project – Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement • Broad review of corridor-wide environmental effects – Service Development Plan • Alternatives for rail service improvements, evaluates their impact on the existing network and operations, and assesses costs and benefits of the proposed plan.
