Present Situation Cont… Ø Strategic Plan will provide focus and direction which leads to action and implementation and results Ø This is not about a “cookie cutter” approach Ø Not all of the activities of the GSDC will automatically fit into the strategic plan Ø We do not have all of the answers Ø We have an important role to play as the GSDC Board of Directors as appointees of City Council Ø Focus the existing ideas and energy to ensure that actions are results driven January 8 th, 2003 GSDC 6

Ø GSDC Board of Directors is committed to all aspects of the economic strategic plan for Greater Sudbury Ø GSDC will be accountable for following through on the plan and for monitoring and tracking progress Ø Capable/committed staff coupled with active participation by the community will serve as the building blocks Ø We are fully aware of the day-to-day realities and projects that will also drive our work January 8 th, 2003 GSDC 8

What do we need from Council? 1. We need Council’s endorsement 2. We want

What do we need from Council? 1. We need Council’s endorsement 2. We want Council and the community to become the owners of Greater Sudbury’s economic strategic plan 3. We need Councillors as the ambassadors of the strategic planning process 4. We recognize there are budget challenges…but Ø Make sure that you adequately resource your #1 priority, economic development 5. Believe in the GSDC Board, and in our community’s drive to grow Greater Sudbury in the short and long term through the strategic plan January 8 th, 2003 GSDC 9
