Usage l Use the present perfect verb tense for an action which began in the past and is still happening now. Michael has taught at Napa Valley College since 1991. Martha has studied at Napa Valley College for two years.

More examples l Rebecca hasn’t seen her parents for six months. l My daughter has played soccer since she was a child. l Maria has been here for two hours.

An action which happened at an unspecified time in the past. Ø I’ve already taken calculus. Ø We have traveled in Mexico many times. Ø Marco doesn’t want to go to the movie with us tonight because he’s already seen it.

Questions l Has Robert ever been to Lake Tahoe? -No he hasn’t. /Yes he has. l Have you ever written a poem? -No I haven’t. / Yes I have. Have you finished your essay yet?

An unfinished or incomplete action Michael still hasn’t completed his research project. I haven’t finished my report yet. Have you found a new job yet? Have you done your homework yet?

Present Perfect Progressive Usage The Present Perfect Progressive emphasizes that an activity or action which began in the past is still happening
