Motivation Estimated: 83, 000 seniors will be living alone by 2030 (~47, 000 in 2016) Studies found that seniors living alone and feeling isolated were twice as likely as their peers to develop depressive symptoms as a result of loneliness Source: Singapore Department of Statistics
Main Theme Leverage on ingenuity and modern technology to introduce / improve interaction or bridge social isolation. Designing for Social Interaction Conceptualize, Conceptualize design, design construct and deploy your very own creation from scratch and make tangible impact to society
Sub-Theme 1 Social Isolation: Reach them / Reach Out Problem: Help socially isolated people to regain / improve social life. Can be due to old age, severe introvert, outcast, mild autism, mental illness, etc Possible Device to reach out (e. g. to health directions: professional, social worker) Device to release / reduce stress or anger
Sub-Theme 2 Generation Gap: Understand them or Be Understood Grandparent or parent have a hard time to connect with their Problem: grandchildren / children OR vice versa. Possible directions: a. Understanding the children, e. g. give a hint of the emotional state, highlight their latest experience b. Provide inroad for the grandchildren to get closer to their parent / grandparent, e. g. simple medicine reminder
