The Take-Away PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES Prepositional phrases There are two types of prepositional phrases. • adverbial • adjectival either function as an adjective or an adverb in a sentence. ADVERBS describe verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. They answer the questions How, when, where, and to what extent? ADJECTIVES describe nouns and pronouns. They answer the questions which one, how many/much, and what kind?
