Welcome

Call to worship Feet, still now, upon the floor, no need to hurry. Hands, lie quietly at rest, no task to do just now.

Body, relax in peace, serene; now calmly rest. Mind, let go the scurrying, let thought be still, so still.

Soul, in silence vast as space, reach, yearning, loving, unto God.

Let us pray facing east From the East, the direction of the rising sun, we receive peace and light and wisdom and knowledge. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

Prayer of Confession:

Sometimes, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. But Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light. ”

Let us bring to God in prayer our burden of sin and our yoke of guilt, confident and trusting in the Spirit of grace.

Touching the sides of the mouth with both hands. Let us offer us the sins of our mouths.

Gracious God, we offer up to you the words we've said in anger or when feeling hurt, and the lies we've told.

Two hands on head. Let us offer up the sins of our minds. Holy God, we offer up to you thoughts we've had that hurt others or show a lack of respect for ourselves.

Hands over heart. Let us offer up to God the sins of our hearts. Merciful God, we offer up to you the times our hearts were bitter and we refused to forgive,

or when we were sad and refused to be comforted, or when we were hardened to others and didn't share love. Hands open, upwards, chest height. Let us offer up the sins of our hands.

Loving God, we offer up to you the times we used our hands to do things that brought harm to others,

to the earth or to ourselves, the times we were not kind. Lifting open hands overhead. Let us take the sins of our mouths and our minds,

our hearts and our hands and release them to the heart of God. One hand spiralling downward. God will transform us, pure and clean as the dove of the Holy Spirit, for we are beloved. This is the Good News of the Gospel. Thanks be to God.

1 I am Isaiah, the son of Amoz. And this is the message that I was given about Judah and Jerusalem when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were the kings of Judah:

10 You are no better than the leaders and people of Sodom and Gomorrah! So listen to the LORD God: 11 "Your sacrifices mean nothing to me. I am sick of your offerings of rams and choice cattle; I don't like the blood of bulls or lambs or goats.

12 "Who asked you to bring all this when you come to worship me? Stay out of my temple! 13 Your sacrifices are worthless, and incense is disgusting. I can't stand the evil you do on your New Moon Festivals or on your Sabbaths and other times of worship.

God of righteousness and peace, We thank you for having listened to our nation's mourning in pain under the Japanese occupation, and for opening the door of unification and peace on the Korean peninsula 62 years ago.

We thank you for calling the churches in the North and the South to be disciples of Christ and to gather together to pray in one voice for peace and unification on this Liberation Memorial Day.

God of love and unification, We pray that you lead us to do our best to create a new history of unification beyond division, and lead our people to help each other to move beyond the suffering of war and to achieve common prosperity.

We pray that you give us a new sign of reconciliation and cooperation on the Korean peninsula to which you call us, which will contribute to peace in North-East Asia and all the world.

God who gives us strength and wisdom, You showed us that peace is to be achieved through humiliation and service just as Jesus came to us in a humble manger, in communion with sinners and washing the feet of the disciples.

You taught us, through your death on the cross offering a sacrifice for atonement, that unification and unity is to be fulfilled through self-sacrifice.

We will follow your teachings through our oneness in prayer as churches in the North and the South.

We will do our utmost to be a church proclaiming national unification and peace as well as practicing it with mildness and humility, not with threats, with justice and love, not with force,

with patience and devotion, not with oppression. God, we pray that you fill us with strength and wisdom. Believing that you call us to be workers for our nation's unification and peace,

that you call us to work today and continuously, and that you guide us to open a new history of our nation's unification and peace, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
