Preparing Worship with Prayer
Greeting : The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. Psalm 24: 1
Welcome
Call to worship Feet : still, still now, upon the floor, no need to hurry. Hands : lie quietly at rest, no task to do just now.
Body : relax in peace, serene; now calmly rest. Mind : let go the scurrying, let thought be still, so still.
Soul : in silence vast as space, reach, yearning, loving, unto God.
Let us pray facing east From the East, the direction of the rising sun, we receive peace and light and wisdom and knowledge. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.
facing south From the South comes warmth, guidance, and the beginning and the end of life. We are grateful for these gifts, O God. facing west From the West comes the rain, purifying waters, to sustain all living things. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.
facing north From the North comes the cold and mighty wind, the white snows, giving us strength and endurance. We are grateful for these gifts, O God. facing upward From the heavens we receive darkness and light, the air of your breath, and messages from your winged creatures. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.
facing downward From the earth we come and to the earth we will return. We are grateful for your creation, Mother Earth, O God. May we walk good paths, O God, living on this earth as brothers and sisters should; rejoicing in one another’s blessing, sympathizing in one another’s sorrows, and together with you, renewing the face of the earth. Amen

Worship Words : I will give you a son, who will be called Ishmael, because I have heard your cry for help.

Prayer of Confession:
Sometimes, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. But Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light. ” Let us bring to God in prayer our burden of sin and our yoke of guilt, confident and trusting in the Spirit of grace.
God we want to do the right thing. We want to share your good news with other people. We want others to know that you love them. We want others to know how Jesus taught us your love.
But sometimes God we are misunderstood. And sometimes we misunderstand others. Sometimes we are hurt. Sometimes they are hurt.
This is especially true of our relationship with our Muslim sisters and brothers. Please forgive us. Teach us how to truly understand one another so that we can share your love. Amen. (Silence)
God the Creator brings you new life, forgives and redeems you. Take hold of this forgiveness, and live your life in the spirit of Jesus. Amen.
The Word is Spoken Genesis 16
1 Abram's wife Sarai had not been able to have any children. But she owned a young Egyptian slave woman named Hagar, 2 and Sarai said to Abram, "The LORD has not given me any children. Sleep with my slave, and if she has a child, it will be mine. "Abram agreed,
3 and Sarai gave him Hagar to be his wife. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years. 4 Later, when Hagar knew she was going to have a baby, she became proud and was hateful to Sarai.
5 Then Sarai said to Abram, "It's all your fault!I gave you my slave woman, but she has been hateful to me ever since she found out she was pregnant. You have done me wrong, and you will have to answer to the LORD for this. "
6 Abram said, "All right! She's your slave, and you can do whatever you want with her. " But Sarai began treating Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away. 7 Hagar stopped to rest at a spring in the desert on the road to Shur. While she was there, the angel of the LORD came to her
8 and asked, "Hagar, where have you come from, and where are you going? " She answered, "I'm running away from Sarai, my owner. " 9 The angel said, "Go back to Sarai and be her slave.
10 -11 I will give you a son, who will be called Ishmael, because I have heard your cry for help. And later I will give you so many descendants that no one will be able to count them all.
12 But your son will live far from his relatives; he will be like a wild donkey, fighting everyone, and everyone fighting him. " 13 Hagar thought, "Have I really seen God and lived to tell about it? "So from then on she called him, "The God Who Sees Me. "
14 That's why people call the well between Kadesh and Bered, "The Well of the Living One Who Sees Me. " 15 -16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar gave birth to their son, and he named him Ishmael.
