Greeting : The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. Psalm 24: 1

Welcome

Call to worship Feet : still, still now, upon the floor, no need to hurry. Hands : lie quietly at rest, no task to do just now.

Body : relax in peace, serene; now calmly rest. Mind : let go the scurrying, let thought be still, so still.

Soul : in silence vast as space, reach, yearning, loving, unto God.

Let us pray facing east From the East, the direction of the rising sun, we receive peace and light and wisdom and knowledge. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

facing south From the South comes warmth, guidance, and the beginning and the end of life. We are grateful for these gifts, O God. facing west From the West comes the rain, purifying waters, to sustain all living things. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

facing north From the North comes the cold and mighty wind, the white snows, giving us strength and endurance. We are grateful for these gifts, O God. facing upward From the heavens we receive darkness and light, the air of your breath, and messages from your winged creatures. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

facing downward From the earth we come and to the earth we will return. We are grateful for these gifts, O God.

May we walk good paths, O God, living on this earth as brothers and sisters should; rejoicing in one another’s blessing, sympathizing in one another’s sorrows, and together with you, renewing the face of the earth. Amen

Worship Words : I will keep you safe only if you change your ways. Be fair and honest with each other. Stop taking advantage of foreigners, orphans, and widows. Don't kill innocent people. And stop worshiping other gods.

Prayer of Confession:

Sometimes, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. But Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light. ” Let us bring to God in prayer our burden of sin and our yoke of guilt, confident and trusting in the Spirit of grace.

Faithful God, you have made a covenant with us. You have made a promise. But we also have promised something to you. We have promised to care for others. We have promised to seek what is true. We know that if we do not keep our promise

you will not be able to keep yours. Sometimes we have failed to do what we said. Please forgive us as long as we keep trying Help us so we can enjoy your love and faithfulness forever. Amen. (Silence)

God the Creator brings you new life, forgives and redeems you. Take hold of this forgiveness, and live your life in the spirit of Jesus. Amen.

The Word is Spoken Jeremiah 7: 1 -15

1 -3 The LORD told me to stand by the gate of the temple and to tell the people who were going in that the LORD All. Powerful, the God of Israel, had said: Pay attention, people of Judah! Change your ways and start living right, then I will let you keep on living in your own country.

4 Don't fool yourselves! My temple is here in Jerusalem, but that doesn't mean I will protect you. 5 I will keep you safe only if you change your ways. Be fair and honest with each other.

6 Stop taking advantage of foreigners, orphans, and widows. Don't kill innocent people. And stop worshiping other gods. 7 Then I will let you enjoy a long life in this land I gave your ancestors.

8 But just look at what is happening! You put your trust in worthless lies. 9 You steal and murder; you lie in court and are unfaithful in marriage. You worship idols and offer incense to Baal, when these gods have never done anything for you.

10 And then you come into my temple and worship me! Do you think I will protect you so that you can go on sinning? 11 You are thieves, and you have made my temple your hideout. But I've seen everything you have done.

12 Go to Shiloh, where my sacred tent once stood. Take a look at what I did there. My people Israel sinned, and so I destroyed Shiloh! 13 While you have been sinning, I have been trying to talk to you, but you refuse to listen.

14 Don't think this temple will protect you. Long ago I told your ancestors to build it and worship me here, but now I have decided to tear it down, just as I destroyed Shiloh. 15 And as for you, people of Judah, I'm going to send you away from my land, just as I sent away the people of Ephraim and the other northern tribes.
