Welcome

Call to worship Holy Love, Beginning and End, giver of food and drink, clothing and warmth, love and hope, life in all its goodness— We praise and adore you.

Jesus Christ, Wisdom and Word: lover of outcasts, friend of the poor, one of us, yet one with God, crucified and risen, life in the midst of death— We praise and adore you.

Holy Spirit, Storm and Breath: building bridges, breaking chains, waking the oppressed, making us one, unseen and unexpected, energy of life— We praise and adore you.

Holy Trinity, forever One, whose nature is community; dance of love: in whom we love, and grow, and know our neighbour, life in all its fullness, making all things new— We praise and adore you.

1 With great understanding, Wisdom is calling out 2 as she stands at the crossroads and on every hill. 3 She stands by the city gate where everyone enters the city, and she shouts:

4 "I am calling out to each one of you! 22 From the beginning, I was with the LORD. I was there before he began 23 to create the earth. At the very first, the LORD gave life to me.

24 When I was born, there were no oceans or springs of water. 25 My birth was before mountains were formed or hills were put in place. 26 It happened long before God had made the earth or any of its fields or even the dust.

27 I was there when the LORD put the heavens in place and stretched the sky over the surface of the sea. 28 I was with him when he placed the clouds in the sky and created the springs that fill the ocean.

SERMON The Great Thanksgiving

May God be with us. God is here among us. Let us open our hearts to God. We open them to God and to one another. Let us give thanks to God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Child: Why do we give thanks and praise at this table? Presider: We give thanks because God is always with us.

We thank you, God, Creator of us all; from the beginning you made the world and all its creatures. You made people to live for you and for one another. We praise you, O God. Halleluyah

You created Adam and Eve and gave them a garden; you showed Noah a rainbow; you gave Moses strength to free your people and taught Miriam to sing;

you gave courage to Esther and loyalty to Ruth; you gave David a harp to sing your praise, and helped him defeat the giant. We praise you, O God. Halleluyah

Yet, even they turned away from you and forgot about you, as we do too. But you did not forget. You sent Jesus to the world to show much you love us and to bring us back to you again. We praise you, O God. Halleluyah

He came as one of us, first an infant, then a child, later a youth, then an adult. He rejoiced with those who rejoiced, and wept with those who wept. To the despairing, he spoke a word of hope. To the sick, he gave healing. To the hurting, he was a friend.

Still, people turned away from you. They betrayed Jesus and nailed him to a cross. But he was lifted from the grave and restored to life, that he might be with us and we with him, alive for evermore! Therefore with all the saints of every time and place, we join the angels in their praise:

Child: Why do we eat bread at this table? We gather at this table to remember that on the night before he died, Jesus ate with his friends, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it,
