Preparing the boat to Leave: • Hook boat trailer up to golf cart (securely … i. e. check this!) • Remove boat cover and stow in shed (fold front to back) • Install drain plug • Verify as many checklist items as you can, now. • Install lifting harness (harness straddles the boom on both sides) • THEN, maneuver boat under lifting winch (align to wheel guides on dock) • Attach winch hook and lift to slightly tension the harness • Unhook bow attachment to trailer • Lift and put boat into the water – crew helps guide/push with painter in hand • Move boat to end of pier using the painter and shroud (push shroud, don’t pull) • Tie off at the end of the pier – remove & stow lifting harness – finish checklist items • Free the main sheet, jib sheets and centerboard pennant, vang should be loose (for now) • Remove boom crutch & gently place boom on the deck in preparation to raise mainsail • Raise mainsail – look for sail battens, outhaul, halyard integrity (sheets are free) • Install mainsail turtle attachment if needed/desired • Reef the mainsail if needed/desired • Install jib, route sheets accordingly and stow the jib bag • REVIEW the checklist – Make decision if YOU and the BOAT are ready (weather ? ) • Rudder & Centerboard down and tension vang accordingly • Loosen boomvang for downwind and snug for upwind (per tide/wind at the pier) • Instruct crew on the take off plan; i. e. initial point of sail and exit strategy • Cast off paainter (bow line) and push bow in the desired direction (as you step on boat) • Readjust Centerboard depth as needed when in deeper water
