THIS IS YOUR ➤ This is the portion of the COMPETITION! academic decathlon competition over which YOU have the most control! ➤ Choosing your prepared speech topic early is of benefit to you and your score. ➤ Imagine if you have a topic picked out by the end of this month and your speech written by the end of October… ➤ If you practice it once each day between November 1 st and February 24 th, that’s a possible 116 times you’ve given your speech!!

BEFORE THE COMPETITION BEGINS ➤ Your name tag has your name and number The

BEFORE THE COMPETITION BEGINS ➤ Your name tag has your name and number The first number is 01 to 25 and is your team number. The second number is 01 to 09 and is your number within the team. ➤ You will first be seated in the holding area in the Berkmar common room. ➤ Then, you will be taken to the speech holding area as a group. ➤ You will then be seated outside your judging room. ➤ Then, you will give your speech. ➤ After your speech, return to the common room.

Judge and Competitor introductions. ➤ Head judge will read the prepared speech instructions. ➤ Deliver your Prepared Speech = 3. 5 to 4 minutes ➤ Head judge will read the impromptu speech instructions and give you the impromptu speech topics. ➤ You will have one minute to select the topic and prepare your impromptu speech. ➤ Deliver your Impromptu Speech = 1. 5 to 2 minutes ➤ You’re all finished and may exit the room!
