INTERNSHIP BASICS • At least 135 hours between now and May 2021 – summer only – part-time during school – Combination of the two • Compensated - hourly wage (at least 4. 25), stipend, etc. • Using technology – at least 50% of the 135 hours • Both the student and the employer are prepared so each has reasonable expectations of the experience • Provides the intern with a supervisor who will guide the student through the work experience
INTERNSHIP BASICS CONT’D. • Offers the intern opportunities to learn about all aspects of the business • Challenges the intern to think and solve problems • Utilizes skills learned in the students' AOIT courses, as well as specific knowledge of the industry and its components • Requires periodic reviews (site visit midway and formal evaluation/assessment upon completion of hours) • IT IS ULTIMATELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT/FAMILY TO ATTAIN AN INTERNSHIP
PRE-INTERNSHIP QUESTIONNAIRE • Complete and return to Ms. Robinson (rm. 1217) by 11. 26. 19 • Helps internship committee target specific companies • Make sure email address is accurate and legible – Start checking your email more regularly

HOW TO FIND AN INTERNSHIP Pursue on your own Family/friends www. raleigh. craigslist. com Ms. Robinson can follow up w/provided information Share www. apexhigh. com/aoit/internship s (liability insurance provided) Turn current job into AOIT Internship Meet basic requirements Ask supervisor and provide Ms. Robinson with contact info. Should include something “new” to the student

INTERNSHIP APPROVAL • If a position meets these criteria, it should be approved: – Student will work at least 135 hours – Student is using technology at least 50% of the time – Student is compensated – Student has a supervisor • Contact Ms. Robinson with any questions
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES - BEFORE • Tonight’s attendance – sign in by picking up forms • Sign and turn in Student Codes of Conduct (page 8) and Prerequisites for an Internship (page 4) • Regularly check email – make sure Ms. Robinson has current email address
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES - BEFORE • Attend one Internship Presentation • Respond to available internships • Schedule interview(s) with internship sponsor – Only interview if interested – Contact Ms. Robinson if no longer interested after the interview • Understand responsibilities before starting – Dress code – Start/stop times – INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT (page 9 -11)– protects students and employer – liability insurance provided by WCPSS
