Root �The basic form of a word. �You can add both prefixes and suffixes to the root.

What is a suffix? �A group of letters that is added to the end of the word to make another word. �Tells you the function of the word in the sentence. �Noun? Verb? Adjective? Adverb?
Adjective Suffixes �The following suffixes are use to turn a word into an ADJECTIVE
-able, -ible �Capable of; having a particular quality �Resourceful �Terrible
- ful �Full of �Playful �Joyful
-en �Made of something; to make something have a particular quality �Wooden �Golden
-ic, -ical �Of; like; relating to a particular thing �Practical �Magical
-less �Without something �Hopeless �Careless
-ous, -ious �Having; full of �Famous �Curious
-y �Full of or covered with something; tending to do something �Sticky �Happy
-ive �Having a particular quality �Reflective �Attractive
Adverbs �There is only one suffix for ADVERBS �- ly �Be careful, not all words that end in –ly are adverbs, but most are �Watch out for lovely, lonely, motherly, and friendly �These are ADJECTIVES
