Personal statements At Open Days, students are often given conflicting advice about personal statements, but in general, statements should: �Explain why the student wants to pursue a particular course �Illustrate particular interests within the subject area �At least 2/3 of the statement should be related to the subject �Not include any institution-specific details �Include details of other interests, skills, experiences
Personal statements Should: Mention any plans for a gap year Refer to work experience / employment if relevant Include career aspirations if relevant Conclude by referring back to the chosen area of study Be truthful and accurate!
One year………… 234 contained the statement: "Ever since I accidentally burnt holes in my pyjamas after experimenting with a chemistry set on my eighth birthday, I have always had a passion for science. “

Process Students are encouraged to show their statements to parents Subject teachers, form tutors, Mrs Greeves and Miss Combes check personal statements as requested All forms will be thoroughly checked before they are processed Statements should be cut and pasted from Word It is best if students show their statement to one person at a time!
